Knights Corner Stanhope Castle Reviews

Sharon
Had an amazing time staying here. The property is clean and spacious with comfy beds and sofas. Plenty of logs available for the log burner. The hot tub is just the best thing to relax in. Meet the owner when he came to do checks on hot tub, lovely gentleman very friendly. Perfect say as we had family over from Australia to stay with us. The whole area is so pretty and we would definitely come back
Lovely long weekend break here very comfortable and clean. Hot tub was hot and clean and ready to use on our arrival. Easy access to shops and pubs right outside the gate.
Christina
Spotlessly clean, so much so that all the oven markings have been scrubbed off so it was a bit of a guessing game! We didnt use the hot tub but took a peep and it looked scrupulously clean also. There were only a couple of flutes that were glass, no glass wine glasses, only plastic, personal choice but not a fan. Apart from the weather it was a very relaxing week.
Felicity
We were very disappointed that the advertised childrens play area was not there. It was the main reason we chose to stay here the extra cost compared to other places in Stanhope was worth it for this the pictures online do need to be updated as its quite a major thing not to have if you have children! The BBQ needs looking at, flames coming out of the handles and toxic smoke coming from the burnt food, just needs a good clean and safety check! We werent able to use the side gate again advertised online due to the sign on it so again this listing needs to be removed. Lots of positives though the fire pit was great, rooms lovely and comfy mould in the en suite needs looking at, we didnt use the shower in there due to this perhaps the extractor fan switch could be made accessible? But it is great and I can see it being more suitable for a weekend gathering of friends rather than families.

Fantastic stay in Kinghts Corner Stayed 2 nights in Knights Corner as a family of 5 adults and 2 toddlers. Everything was perfect, lovely hot tub, huge private garden, really comfortable beds. Everything we needed for a perfect stay was included. Scott was an amazing host, with great communication from time of booking, answering email requests for high chairs etc, to week of arrival, details of check in etc. We will definitely be recommending Stanhope Castle to friends and family.
We enjoyed a wonderful family birthday celebration in very comfortable and stylish accommodation set in a lovely location.
Danielle
Beautiful home, nice and cosy. Owners easy to get in contact with if needed. Stunning surroundings, people nice and friendly and local pubs are very welcoming
Matthew
Great apartment in a lovely location. Stanhope is a lovely peaceful village with a couple of pubs and a convenience shop, The apartment itself is part of Stanhope castle and is clean and very well furnished and maintained. The pictures do not do this place justice. Communication and arrival was also great I would not hesitate to recommend and will likely return in the near future
The slightly lower scores were due to the steps needed to access the property. I and the lack of lighting outside at night. I there were lights but they did not work. Apart from that inside was comfortable clean and relaxing. The village was easily accessible had everything you needed. with plesent walks close to several interesting places
Loved the property, only suggestion would be dog towel and more kitchen utensils We ate out mainly but did notice if I had of cooked for example a spaghetti bolognese there were no serving spoons. And also there is limited shelving in the oven Overall though fantastic stay, looking forward to our next sykes holiday in October
Alison
Another fabulous week at Knights Corner! The apartment is spacious with comfortable seating and a great dining table. The beds are super comfy with plenty of wardrobe and drawer storage space. Good showers in both bathrooms. Towels and robes provided. The kitchen is well equipped. Huge fridge and freezer. The grounds are fantastic and the hot tub a real treat. The fire pit worked well. The local coop sells firewood but bring long skewers if you want to toast marshmallows. We used the barbecue as a stand for a disposable one but you can't buy these locally because of the risk of causing a fire when not used safely. The woodland walk in the grounds is beautiful but use the path from the patio area or risk the nettles. Shops and pubs are a short walk away. The pubs no longer serve food but the takeaways are good and the baker's is amazing. The Dales Centre has a lovely cafe and gift shops. The river is also just a short walk away and lovely for a paddle if the weather's good. The village is pretty, the people are friendly, the air is fresh and the accommodation amazing. What more could you want?

Fantastic few nights away with my partner, 3 kids and a Labrador in a gorgeous part of the country. Accommodation was fabulous more than enough space for us all with everything we needed. The outdoor space is huge pictures dont do it justice! and the hot tub was brill. Loved the dressing gowns so we werent cold when we got out. Stanhope itself is lovely as are the surrounding areas had brill pizza at a pub in frosterley and a lovely Italian in Wolsingham. Also visited beamish and Durham both a simple drive. All in all a brilliant family holiday!

Firstly the good points. The accommodation is well positioned within the town with everything on the doorstep. It was generally clean and tidy when we arrived but see below. The large garden was great for our grandchildren who joined us during our stay. The bad points outside steep steps down to the house would benefit from some proper lighting. The barbecue was rusty and not very clean, we didnt feel inclined to use it. The log burner was rusty, full of ashes and burned through at the base again it wasnt really usable. We tried for several days to get the hot tub to heat up instructions in the house were basically a brochure for a range of different tubs so not specific to the one installed at Knights Corner and not very clear. Finally contacted the owner who replied to say press the heat button. Wed already done this without success its actually labelled warm. Two very helpful maintenance guys from the castle turned up the following day and tried several times to get it to work They came back three times during the day and said they thought there was a problem with it before it finally started to heat up and tried twice to contact the owner without success. We were finally able to use it once the evening before we left. Inside house and wardrobes smelt musty when we arrived we had to buy a plug in air freshener. TV remotes needed cleaning the oven wasnt cleaned properly and there was a burnt fat smell when we first turned it on. The extractor hood for the cooker wasnt working in an open plan property this is a must and from other reviews weve seen this has been a problem since last year. Only half of the toaster worked and the kitchen itself wasnt particularly well equipped for example, there was one shallow serving dish for a property accommodating six people. The bathroom toilet leaked and the plug in the bathroom sink didnt work. Five days after we returned home, having heard nothing regarding return of our damage deposit, I contacted the owner who immediately sent back photos of damage we had allegedly caused. I wasnt aware of any damage and would have expected to be contacted much sooner if there was any issue, not much later in response to my request for the deposit to be returned. In short, for a property costing as much as this one to rent, there are too many negatives and I would not recommend it. For anyone considering a Stanhope Castle breaks please look at the more recent reviews which are available on many different websites.

Excellent stay at knights corner with 3 young children, being all on 1 level with 3 large bedrooms and living area this was ideal. Outdoor space is fantastic.
Christine
Just enjoyed a fabulous stay at Knights Corner. Everything was perfect for our Christmas Holiday. Hot tub was amazing and huge outdoor area to enjoy. We sat outside with the wood burner on watching the amazing stars under the dark skies. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a holiday in the area. Everything you need is close by also with the main street through Stanhope only a stones throw away. Finally Thanks to the lovely owner Scott and his wife for being so helpful with our queries.
We had a fantastic time. Its very quiet within a beautiful village. Apartment was spacious and well decorated. Once the heating was on it was lovely and cosy too and we all loved the hot tub. The garden is big so plenty of space for the little ones and a swing set.
We thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend in knights corner. The property was exactly as it looked in the photos, the apartment and garden area were huge, even as a party of 6 adults we had plenty of space. The large windows in the property are beautiful, the main one looks out over trees and fields, gorgeous views even in November. The apartment is very tastefully decorated, and cosy and comfortable. We loved using the hot tub. Would love to stay again.
A lovely property situated in a lovely friendly town. Everything we needed was provided. A large garden with swings and goal for football would have been perfect if our grandchildren could have come. Woodland to walk the dog, though she needed to be kept on the lead both by request from owners and from point of view of safety as she was inclined to want to throw herself over the side of steep slopes after the squirrels. Within minutes we could walk to shops, pubs and a beautiful walk be the side of the Weir River. A little further, and we could be on walks into the fells. Thank you for a great week.
We had a great stay at Knights Corner. The house and grounds were lovely, beds were very comfortable, hosts were clear and helpful in their communications, and everything worked well from hot tub to tv. Would happily recommend a stay here.
Our stay at knights corner was lovely. Apartment was very clean, spacious and tidy. It was as well equipped and had everything we needed. Decorated to a high spec. Great location to village. We enjoyed the hot tub especially as it was under cover. Would highly recommend.
A very comfortable property which made for a quiet and relaxing holiday.
Second time staying in knights corner and it was as fantastic as the first, the castle offers all we need and could want as a family and fills the childrens imaginations. Such a lovely big garden space, beautiful rooms and the hot tub is great fun. We all miss the castle and the village the instant we have to leave. Thank you
Had a great relaxing week at Knights Corner. Lovely hot tub and outside area for the kids 13 and 10 to play football etc. Nice clean, comfortable apartment with access through gate onto main street of shops and pubs. One or two things need attention. Cooker hood extractor not working. More kitchen utensils needed such as stirring spoons and spatulas. Spare bin bags would be nice and clarity over which bins to use as there was only one green bin with number 4 on but green and blue ones with number 5 on. Controls for shower in en suite very stiff. Also a torch would be handy as we had power cuts on first night fault of utility provider not owner and sorted following day and we were feeling around in the dark to use bathroom in the night. Otherwise really enjoyed our stay.
What a beautiful setting! We had an amazing half term at Knights Corner, Stanhope Castle. The property was central to everything we wanted to see, we also liked spending time at the property. The garden and hot tub were a hit with the children. We will definitely be coming back!

Really enjoyed our stay. It's a lovely property, with great facilities.
An amazing stay at Stanhope castle. The accommodation was spotless and luxurious throughout and made for a wonderful family mini break. The hot tub is the icing on the cake. Absolutely marvellous will certainly book again.
Kniights Corner was warm, welcoming and comfortable. The apartment was quirky but with all modern facilities and very well placed for the main shopping street. We had a very enjoyable stay.
Really enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing in beautiful surroundings. The Castle apartment was comfortable and clean and we loved the hot tub and the little castle play equipment to keep my youngest entertained whilst we enjoyed a cuppa
Thankyou for a truly lovely stay, we absolutely throughly enjoyed every minute of it from watching the childrens faces light up when we pulled up outside a real live castle, relaxing in the hot tub, movie nights and fun games in the huge garden and wonderful adventures in the deep dark woods. The whole village of Stanhope was amazing and welcoming. We made lasting memories and havent stopped talking about since returning home.
Christine
We had a fantastic stay at Knights corner. Decor, facilities and outside area were amazing. Cant wait to stay again.
Danielle
Our second time staying at Stanhope Castle. A really beautiful spot, good quality and comfortable accommodation, only snag this time of year is the lack of curtains in the bedrooms which meant early starts for the children and consequently us, would have been a 5 star other than that. The space outside is amazing with young kids and perfect views. Were looking to book again for next year again. Both Ruth and Scott very helpful throughout our stay.
Dorothy
Lovely property, hot tub was great, garden was lovely, loved Stanhope will defiantly co sider a return visit. Dorothy G
Belinda
We have just returned from a fantastic weekend break at knights Corner. The accommodation is great and the outdoor area is amazing. Fantastic views, loads of space, best hot tub l have been in and the most private. It was surprisingly quiet outside considering the small bustling town with its three pubs were just at the other side of the walls. Only niggle we had was the blinds in the bedrooms were not good enough to stop light in th e morning so we were up very early. On the positive side it meant we were all up and outside sipping coffee, chatting and enjoying the bird songs and views. Another nice touch was the owners contacted us before we went to double check details and make sure we knew how to get there and how to get in etc. On arrival baby cot and high chair and extra baby snuggle blankets were waiting for us. They also had tea, coffee and sugar!! Finally, the chimenea, gas barbecue and hot tub were fantastic and really made it feel luxurious. Perfect accommodation in a great location with great walks. Enjoy!!!!
Claire
We enjoyed a lovely relaxing stay , Great location out of the back gate into the market square . Clean and well equipped accommodation. Great outdoor space which if you have children is a bonus . The staff were all very friendly and professional. Would definitely return .
Michelle
Had an amazing time at this outstanding property. Absolutely luxurious accommodation with the added bonus of a huge, private garden that we and especially our dog loved. The property was immaculate with lots of loving attention to detail. We loved the location of the property which is right in the centre of Stanhope town with a short walk to the river and three local pubs but only a fifteen minute drive to some great walks in Hamsterley Forest too which we really enjoyed. Stayed for a week and could have quite easily stayed longer in the lovely peace and quiet.
Had a wonderful New Year stay. The apartment met all our requirements and we had everything we needed. The village and surrounding area is peaceful with lovely walks. We dined locally and bought local produce. Evenings were spent relaxing and chilling in the spacious hot tub enjoying the great outdoors under a canopy of lights. The TV worked well and we were able to watch planned programmes. We enjoyed the Cava and chocolates left by our hosts. Nothing to dislike.
